Great news this week from the state Legislature and Coast Guard about the Point Memorial efforts.
First, state Sen. President Therese Murray’s office said this morning it is actively working on a couple of key pursuits:
- Trying to determine which entity actually owns/control the property upon which the memorial sits — and then who should maintain it moving forward.
- Working with other local legislators and the Coast Guard to determine the process to declare as official heroes the three Coast Guardsmen who died.
A representative of state Rep. Vinny deMacedo last week said his office was exploring similar avenues and planned to be in touch with Sen. Murray’s staff.
Meantime, an official from Coast Guard District 1 in Boston said Tuesday he hopes to visit the memorial site this week and help determine what the Coast Guard could do to “to help distinguish the memorial better.”
We’ll keep you up to date as we hear more.
